Open Space and the Environment
California has both an affordable housing crisis and a dwindling amount of precious open space. I will support quality development projects that balance the need for diverse housing and services while protecting the environment and community character. I will continue to bring an open mind to land use, making informed decisions on a case-by-case basis. I have always stressed the need for protecting and promoting private property rights, both locally and throughout the State of California.
Improving our environment must be a priority but also done in a manner that is beneficial to our residents and the local economy. Encouraging environmentally friendly technology, incentives, and freedom of choice are the best ways to protect our environment. Solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, green building and gray water system policies enacted during my tenure are some of the reasons why Encinitas is considered one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in San Diego County.
