Over 84,000 San Diego County residents are estimated to be living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Kristin Gaspar is leading The Alzheimer’s Project, bringing together the region’s top research institutions, public universities, health care systems, caregiver groups, and others to find a cure. San Diego is one of the top medical research clusters in the world, but while Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the nation, it is the third leading cause here in San Diego.
