While serving as Chair of the Board of Supervisors, I initiated a Board Conference to take an in-depth look at Caring for People in Psychiatric Crisis in San Diego County. The conference was the first-of-its-kind in California and addressed the complexities of the system of care for people struggling with mental health issues. These challenges are at the forefront of every jurisdiction across the state and nation and the conference provided a comprehensive perspective on the challenges we face in the region around our behavioral health continuum of care. We will spend $658 million this year on Behavioral Health Services and in order to optimize these investments, we must pair our ongoing investments with a collaborative approach and leverage every dollar for the greatest collective impact.
